Fair Use Remix

Fair Use Remix

I watched a fair use remix that mixed hit movie Frozen and classic movie Mean Girls. I found this remix interesting because it involves two very popular movies/soundtracks in my era.

This remix was very proportional in the sense that the audio lined up perfectly with the video. I think that if it wasn't proportional it would have not been so good because it just looks unprofessional when the audio and video are not proportional.

Along with that, this remix did give credit to Disney and Paramount who produced it by stating in the description of the video that she doesn't own Disney, Frozen, Paramount or Mean Girls.

This American Life/Radio Lab

This American Life/Radio Lab

I chose to listen to one segment of American Life 538: Is this working? and from Radio Lab I listened to about 10 minutes of 60 words. I found multiple similarities and differences between the segments. The American Life segment spoke about rigid school systems and they featured someone with a story about their experience with a strict school system, while Radio Lab spoke about how 60 words of legal language have blurred the line between war and peace.

While listening to both videos I noticed that in This American Life that there were little sound effects, however when there were they were in the background when narrating and at the end of the interview. However in Radio Lab there was way more audio/sound effects which included audio from news broadcasts and interviews.

In terms of the interview style, Radio Lab was much more casual and was more like a discussion. While This American Life was clearly an interviewer asking questions and narrating and the interviewee answering and telling his story.

Pathfinder Indesign Logo

Indesign Logo

When I started creating my logo I looked at all my options and I really wanted to do something with stars, but I struggled to find a way to put them together in a creative way. So, then I created a rectangle and a couple circles and played around with their placement and finally came up with the placement of the shapes as shown above. I change the size of the circles and placed them in each corner of the rectangle, then I added three of the four circles to the rectangle to create a new shape using the add tool on the pathfinder toolbar, and then I used the exclude overlap tool for the last circle to change up the shape of the whole logo. Lastly, I used my favorite color pink to fill it and complimented it with a bright yellow thin-thin stroke.

Brochure Color Scheme

Brochure Color Scheme

So for my brochure color scheme, I chose to do an HPU signature purple since the brochure is about the HPU Passport. The other colors I chose based on my personal preference because I thought the mint green and bright pink complemented the purple well.

Adjustment Layers

Adjustment Layers

Before:                                                                                               After:

For adjustment layer 1, I adjusted the levels to 24, 1.00, 215 which made the picture have more highlights than shadows, therefore giving the picture more contrast. Along with that, I adjusted the black/white based on the colors in the photo which either made them lighter or darker, so my final numbers were red=22, yellow=115, green=132, cyan=54 and I didn't adjust the blue or magenta because it did not make a significant difference to the picture.

For adjustment layer 2, I lowered the level of the curve, there for making the have darker shadows and brighter highlights. Then when I did option-click it made a copy of the curves in another layer.

For adjustment layer 3, I adjusted the vibrance to +55 which increased the intensity of the more muted colors such as the bricks, and then I adjusted the saturation to +29 which increased the vividness of the colors in the picture. The greens, blues and reds were equally boosted.

Photo Story Proposal

For my photo story, I was thinking about doing the Women's Soccer Game this Friday night against Elon. I think that my photo story is significant because it involves students and school spirit and it shows off the beautiful athletic facilities that High Point has to offer. The scope of my story allows me to complete the project in the space and time available because I don't have to leave campus and since I am doing it this Friday it will give me enough time to go through all the photos to pick which ones I want to use.

The visual components of my story would include different shots of the field, a close up of a players face, a winning shot, someone kicking a ball, someone preparing to score a goal, and possibly a celebration of the win. I want my story to include all the aspects of what it takes to play soccer because it will be easier for the viewer to understand.

If my subject doesn't cooperate, so for example if a player doesn't want a picture taken I will have to ask someone else on the team who would be willing to take a picture. If I don't get all the shots I want, I will be able to go to another game. Lastly, some possible technical problems I could encounter would be that my camera battery and/or camera doesn't work.

About Me

My name is Olivia Hopf and I am from Bedford, NY a town that is about 45 min north of New York City. I have a younger brother, John, he is 9 years old and super athletic along with entertaining.

All throughout high school I played field hockey and lacrosse. Besides playing sports I love to take pictures both digital and film. Film photography is my favorite because I love the whole process of developing and printing because I like knowing that I worked hard to create an image. But not many people have the opportunity to use a dark room throughout high school, and I can't wait to continue photography at High Point.

Another hobby that I love to do is coach/teach younger kids how to play field hockey. For the past two years I coached a rec team in my town and this summer I coached kids at a camp in a town near me. I enjoy teaching younger kids how to love the sport they play and to never give up on something you love to do.
